Kat Ackerfeldt shows and explains how an 19th century portable writing desk (lap desk) circa 1833, the old version of a laptop and accessories, were used as writing tools almost 200 years ago. One of Toronto's First Post Office's many exhibits.

Pneuma -- "Breath of Life"--in meditative consideration of the transformations that define human existence. Using the rhythmic medium of film, Pneuma represents a personal translation of inner thought. "It bloomed", says Sigusmondi, "from a walking dream that unlocked something boundless and idyllic from my unconscious." Pneuma is a journey of spirit through birth, a rumination on time and sacred knowledge mediated by the body. It touches on the universal fear of...

Toronto's First Post Office is operated by the Town of York Historical Society. The Society was born of the interest generated by the restoration of an historical block of buildings at Adelaide and George Streets, in downtown Toronto. These included the Bank of Upper Canada (1827), the De La Salle Building (1871), and Toronto’s First Post Office (1833). Many experts – architects, historians and curators – volunteered assistance during the restoration project. From this core group,...
